The Harley Hospice Quilt website is an effort to both honor and preserve the practice of quilting in Harley’s hospice program. In this program, seniors at Harley care for the dying in order to serve their community and foster empathy. After a patient’s death under hospice care, the students who cared for them would make a quilt square representing the patient’s life. After the founders of this program (Bob Kane and Pat de Souza) left the school, the quilting program died out with no record. The hope for this project is that it will provide information on the existing quilts and instructions for the development of hospice quilts by Harley students in the future.
